本局成立於民國七十七年九月，自原有衛生局體系成立環境保護局，成立至今共歷任七位局長，分別為黃局長、莊局長、高局長、陳局長、張局長、陳局長、鄧局長，至現任局長劉局長和然，在這八任局長任內，奠定環保局發展之基礎，也開啟新北市環境保護之先鋒。
